Laser Surgery Is One Of The More Modern Innovations of Medical Science But It Has Many Functions And The List Of Laser Treatments Continues To Be Extended

There are numerous sorts of surgery available to treat every part of the body, but one of the relatively new additions to the list is laser surgery. Most people have most likely heard of it, but far less may be aware that there are a number of different types of laser surgery in use.

There are three major sorts of laser surgery, and the main difference between them is that they make use of different sorts of laser, which is possibly an obvious thing to say when considering the various areas of the human body where they can be used. The massive advantage of using a laser rather than a scalpel is that there is never any actual contact with the body so there is hardly any risk of infection, plus the patient is likely to recover more quickly too.

Hard Tissue Laser Surgery is employed – as the name suggests – on things such as bones, and more frequently, teeth. Dental functions can include early warning of tooth decay, preparation work for fillings and treatment for temperature sensitive teeth. One of the good things about using lasers in these circumstances is that they also kill any bacteria in the tooth which needs the treatment, so also reducing the likelihood of the patient having further issues.

The second type of surgery is Soft Tissue Laser Surgery. This, as the name suggests, is used on softer areas of the body. It is used in Dentistry for helping the gums, but has countless other applications as well. Amongst these are treatments for the brain, spine and nervous system, for ears, nose and throat, for the head, neck and face, and for large areas of the torso.

The third type of surgery is likely to be the one which people have heard most about – Laser eye surgery. There are quite a few different Laser eye treatments which can be recommended to improve the sight of the patient. Whilst not every eye complaint can be treated by Laser eye surgery, new solutions are being investigated in this field and there is a great chance that in the not too distant future there will be more Laser eye treatments introduced, as indeed could well be the case for other parts of the body as well.

There are, naturally, other types of laser treatment available for some areas of the human body, but in general most surgical uses of lasers fall into the three categories detailed above.
